The Round Tower
The Round Tower, which is part of the town of Orbe’s ancient castle, has pride of place in the heart of this small town. It offers splendid 360° panoramic views over the town roofs to the Jura mountain range and the Alps.
Further along the esplanade is another tower, the Tour Carré or Square Tower, which also provides splendid views of the vast Orbe Plain. The Round Tower was originally designed for defence purposes. It was built by Amédée III in about 1232-33 A.D, and was magnificently restored in 2009.
Inside the tower, a series of panels give provide information about the history of the town, particularly the important role played by Orbe during the Middle Ages.
